Mont Saint Michel, the image that appears most on French postcards, most visited monument after the Eiffel. A medieval Benedictine Abbey, built between the 11th and 16th centuries, 1km in diameter jutting out of the waters of the English Channel. Currently 41 people call it home (saw 2 of them), and the structure has been home to monks for over a thousand years (when it wasn't a prison after the French Revolution). When you not silent and reflective in prayer, you can try a french omelette for 25€, prepared the same way in a wood-fired oven for over 100 years. Yes, an omelette... For 25€... Gothic, romantic (apart from the non-pious paraphenalia), part of earth, sea and sky, a wonder of the West.
